Rita T. Winkler

Rita T. Winkler of Perryville died Jan. 6, 2017 at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. She was 91.

She was born Nov. 10, 1925 in Claryville, daughter of Benjamin J. and Rosa A. (Zoellner) Schott.  She married Albert Hugo Winkler on June 28, 1947.  He preceded her in death on Oct. 9, 1997.   

Rita was a homemaker, co-owner of Winkler Service Station and provided childcare in her home for years.  She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.  She loved quilting, gardening, cooking and was an avid fan of St. Louis Cardinal Baseball.

Survivors include four daughters, Wanda (Bob) Guth of Tucson, AZ, Judy Schaaf (Joe) Wheeler of Ironton, Brenda (Carl) Eggers of Perryville and Sheila (Rick) Bodenschatz of Wildwood; two brothers and one sister, Chalmer Schott of Littleton, CO, Wilma Fiala of Loveland, CO, and Glennon (Pat) Schott of Belleville, IL; nine grandchildren, two step-granddaughters and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one sister, Elda Franklin; one son-in-law, Dennis W. Schaaf; and one infant grandson, Nicholas Schaaf.

Visitation were held at Young & Sons Funeral Home on Monday, January 9 from 4 p.m. – 8 p.m. and on Tuesday from 6:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. with a rosary at 9:30 a.m.  She was then taken to St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church for Mass at 11 a.m. with Rev. Milton Ryan CM officiating.  Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.

Memorials are preferred to St. Vincent de Paul Schools.
