Larry Gene Johnson
Larry Gene Johnson passed away on March 13, 2017 surrounded by his family. He was 67.
Larry was born in St. Louis on December 17, 1949. He graduated from Berkeley High School in 1967 and enlisted in the United States Air Force after graduation and served as an aircraft mechanic.
He is survived by his first-born daughter, McKenzie (Ron Robinson, Queen Creek AZ); wife Patti (Meesey) of 37 years; their three children, Kori (Eric Stechmesser, Columbia IL), Megan (Chris Casciaro, St. Louis) Mark (Jess Long, St. Louis); and six grandchildren, Jordan, Kaci, Josh, Marli, Ryien and crew.
After his military service and prior to retirement, Larry worked many years in the Foodservice and Hospitality industry.
In 2008, with their kids grown and on their own, Larry and Patti left the city life behind and built a home in the Ozark hills of Arcadia Valley in Ironton.
Larry was easy to know and had a smile for everyone. He made new friendships wherever he was. An early riser, the Steak ‘n Shake on Germania was the gathering place for Larry’s breakfast bunch of city friends. Most mornings it was coffee, diet Coke and conversation with his tablemates. His new life in the valley was no different. The Pilot Knob McDonald’s would become his new favorite place to be for this morning ritual - rain or shine. Catching up and keeping tabs on old friends and some new ones. Being a “McRegular” felt natural and familiar. It felt like home.
