Bob S. Dempsey

Bob S. Dempsey of Ironton passed away Dec. 22, 2016 at his residence.  He was 89.  He was born on Aug. 3, 1927 in Saint Louis, the son of the late Buell and Oma Mae (Gilstrap) Dempsey.

Bob was united in marriage to Loretta Faye Turner on Oct. 9, 1965 and she survives.  

Also surviving are five children, Randy and wife Terri Dempsey of Imperial, Christine and husband Rick Schindler of Edwardsville, IL, David and wife Amy Dempsey of Bonne Terre, David Crocker and wife Melissa of Park Hills, and Dennis Crocker of Farmington.  Bob was preceded in death by his son, Dennis Dempsey.

Other survivors include his brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Leona Dempsey of Pilot Knob, and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Thomas; a brother, Jerry Dempsey; grandsons Aaron Crocker and David Dempsey; and great-granddaughter Isabella Simms.

Bob was a 1945 graduate of Ironton High School.  He served his country in the United States Army during World War II.   He was the owner and operator of Fort Davidson Oil Company for 35 years.  He also owned Fort Davidson Muffler and Brake and the Pilot Knob Liquor Store.  He was a member of the Ironton Masonic Lodge AF & AM and the Arcadia Valley Elks Lodge.  He loved to bowl, play golf, water ski and boating.  He was particularly fond of baseball and softball.  He coached Little League for his sons, he played on teams, and he sponsored teams.  

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2016 from Bryson Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Mark Sutton officiating.  Visitation was on Monday evening from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m.  Interment was in Arcadia Valley Memorial Park.  Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
